Campaign: Anti dog fouling
Background and purpose:
The issue of dog fouling and the emptying of dog bins are being addressed
to tackle the perception of dog fouling as a problem on the Island, as highlighted
in the initial residents survey. The aim of the project is to reduce the amount
of dog fouling through education of dog owners and enforcement thereby improving
the local environment for all residents.
Progress report:
- Additional signage has been installed on those beaches that have dog
bans in order to ensure that there is no confusion.
- Dog bag dispensers, are already in place along the seafronts at Ryde.
Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor.
- Dog Wardens
• From the beginning of August, two new dog wardens will be in place.
• These staff will be targeted to deal with areas of the Island that
have the highest instances of dog fouling.
• They will be on duty early in the mornings and in the evenings,
as well as on weekends in order to ensure that we are able to identify and
address irresponsible dog owners.
• The two dog wardens will also take enforcement action against offenders.
Activities for the next period:
- Dog Control Orders
• On-going consultation over the proposed new dog orders until October
