Campaign: Free parking for environmentally friendly vehicles

Background and purpose:

The 2007 budget agreed at Full Council on Wednesday 21st February 2007, provided funding for the implementation of a variety of Green Island initiatives, including free parking for electric and other environmentally friendly vehicles (EFV’s) in the Council’s off street car parks, thus encouraging their use.

The steps of the programme are:

A feasibility study to determine which sort of environmentally friendly vehicles should be allowed to park free.
A list of sites at which free parking will be made available
To amend the Parking Places Order, and get Council approval for implementation

Activities for next period:

The arrangement for current vehicles that qualify for free parking will be formalised through the advertisement of a parking places order during Autumn 2007
Feasibility Study through to the end of the year
