Background and purpose:
The Island has seen a significant increase in the number of Children looked
after by the Council since March 2005. This increase has led to a shortage
of local authority residential placements for some of those children who cannot
cope with living within a family environment. As a result we have to seek
residential provision off-Island and through the private sector. Life outcomes,
particularly, educational outcomes for such young people can be adversely
affected by instability and moves off-Island. We are aiming to improve the
life outcomes of these children by improving the care packages that support
them.
Progress Report
An analysis of the profile of young people accessing agency placements has been undertaken, the findings of which will ishape our approach to this project.
We are currently looking at how local residential assessment and care can be improved.
