Free Home Care for the Over 80'sOne Island Programme

Campaign: Free personal home care for the over 80's

Locations: Island wide

Free personal home care for the over 80's

Background and Purpose

This project jointly supports the core strategy of enabling more older people to remain living in their own homes. Some of the threats to independence for older people include ability to maintain their home and engage in purposeful and / or social activities. The delivery of free personal care at home for those over 80 meeting our eligibility criteria, means that there will be more disposable income available for older people to spend on other things that contribute to their quality of life.

Progress Report

During the first two months of implementation, over 500 older people were receiving free personal care with the average number of care hours provided each week being around 4400 hours. Over 30 older people who were organising their own care ahead of the implementation, were able to obtain this support through a self-assessment process.

Activities for next period

There will continue to be activity that supports the delivery of direct payment options wherever possible and assessment of the barriers to achieving this.
