Campaign: Joining up public services across the island
Background and Purpose
The aim of this project is to work effectively with the police and the Primary
Care Trust (PCT) to streamline service delivery, reduce duplication, increase
efficiencies and move to a joint HQ.
The Island’s public sector has a significant property asset that should
be managed more effectively. Between the Council, the PCT and the Police we
have a huge amount of cash tied up in property – property that is neither
customer friendly to visit for residents or efficient to work in for our staff.
We want to put this right and quickly. We intend to use our property for the
benefit of Islanders by reinvesting cash in services, stimulating regeneration
and enabling assets to be used more effectively at a local level by the town
and parish councils.
Progress Report
- We have signed up to a Memorandum of Understanding with Health partners
outlining how we intend to work together, which has been hailed as a national
exemplar by the Department of Health.
- Strengthened working relationship with the IW Healthcare PCT. This is
a groundbreaking initiative that puts us at the forefront of national partnership
working in this field – with a shared public health post and joint
commissioning of services.
- This quarter has seen a review of cross-Solent travel for council staff.
More work is ongoing, to analyse the data fully, and a report with recommendations
will come back in due course.
Activities for Next Period
- Greater engagement with Parish and Town Councils (P&TC's) to start.
This will explain P&TCs' role in the Island Strategic Partnership. The
P&TCs will be invited to offer up more opportunities for efficiency
through joined-up working, at the local level.
