Disabled Parking Bays

Service Description: Following the commencement of the Highways PFI Contract on 1 April 2013, the Isle of Wight Council is reviewing its policy for the provision of disabled parking bays on the island in line with recent guidance from the Department for Transport.

The current disabled parking bays on the Isle of Wight are advisory only, except in town centres where they are covered by a Traffic Regulation Order. This means that advisory bays are not enforceable and require a Traffic Regulation Order and be individually signed to make them enforceable.

In light of recent guidance from the Department for Transport in relation to the marking of disabled parking bays, all applications have been put on hold until such time as the review has taken place into how the Isle of Wight Council wishes to proceed. This review is likely to be completed by March 2014 and it will need to be approved by the Council's Cabinet.
