ContactPoint

AboutContactPoint00

ContactPoint is the name for the national tool that has been known previously by the working title of Information Sharing Index.

ContactPoint will be the quick way to find out who else is working with the same child or young person, making it easier to deliver more coordinated support.

This basic online directory will be available to authorised staff who need it to do their jobs. It is part of the Every Child Matters programme to improve outcomes for children.

Key Messages

ContactPoint is all about improving the lives of children and young people with a strong emphasis on early intervention and prevention as part of the changes under the Every Child Matters programme.

It aims to help ensure all children get the services and support to which they are entitled – as well as safeguarding vulnerable children.

It is designed to make it easier for those working with children and young people to do their jobs: to save time and reduce duplication of effort.

It will include very basic information – and no case details.

It will be available across England, rolled-out to local authorities during 2008.

National coverage is important to ensure continuity across local authority boundaries.

It will include all children and young people up to their 18th birthday.
