Information Sharing Protocols

Using the IRT Index system will tell the concerned practitioner who else is involved in the welfare of the child or young person, but it won’t tell them anything else. The practitioner must then contact his colleague(s) in the other agencies involved and request the required information.

The request for the information, and the response given, must comply with a set of protocols to ensure that the information is shared in a legal and ethical way.

Many protocols for information sharing exist already between different agencies, and are already in use. More protocols will be developed to allow fully “joined-up” team work between the agencies.

There are three main aspects to the protocols:
  • Principles – The legal and ethical basis for information sharing
  • Purposes – Why information must be shared
  • Processes – How to share the information, record disclosures, etc.

As the protocols are developed, they will be made available on this web site.
