Who can get help and how?

If You’re Worried about a Child.

Children’s Services provides advice to all families who request it. You can obtain this advice by visiting or phoning the

Children’s Service Centre, Atkinson Drive, Newport, Isle of Wight 01983 525790

where you will be put in touch with a member of the Duty Team – the central team that handles all initial enquires.
The Children’s Service Centre is open;
Monday to Thursday 8.45am – 5.00pm
Friday 8.45am – 4.30pm

What happens?
  • You call us with a question / some information / a situation you are worried about
  • The Duty Team Clerk will take initial details and then talks to a Duty Social Worker.
  • The Duty Social Worker will see you or call you back. They may respond to you immediately e.g. if we advice that your needs will be best met by another agency or if we need to act quickly to protect a child.
  • They may need to arrange a further meeting or meetings to more fully assess your situation. In order to do this permission may be sought to contact other agencies.
  • If we are not able to respond to your situation we will tell you and back that up in writing within 7 days of your enquiry.
