Residential Accommodation or Foster Care with Agencies on the Mainland

Although we want to offer services on the Island, sometimes after an assessment, we find that we can’t meet your need’s here.

Examples include children and young people with:
  • Severe or specific disabilities of life threatening illnesses.
  • Challenging or criminal behaviour or therapeutic needs, which could endanger themselves or others.

If the assessment recommends an agency placement the decision that Children’s Services will agree to and fund such a placement(s) lies with the Head of Children’s Services.
These tend to be very expensive placements. A panel made up of senior officers in Education, Health and Children’s Services oversee these placements and the payments for them. We will always try to return these children and young people to the Island as soon as appropriate.

The Council has a charging policy that may apply to some parents.
