What is a Connexions Careers Adviser?
Your Connexions Careers Adviser will provide independent careers information; advice, guidance and support if you are aged 13-19, (up to 25 with LDD) and in statutory or post 16 education on the Isle of Wight. This includes young people in schools, special schools, the Isle of Wight College, Independent schools, tuition centre’s and also those that are educated outside a school environment. The Connexions Education Team also provides a community-based careers guidance service to Young People via the Youth Connexions Centre in Newport.

What service can you expect from the Connexions Careers Service?
The Connexions Education Team delivers the Local Authority’s professional independent Careers Service. This adheres to the principle that all young people on the Isle of Wight must have access to professional, impartial, independent and confidential careers guidance.
Elements of this service are as follows:
  • All young people in Year 11 receive the offer of a careers guidance interview.
  • All young people in years 9, 10, 12 and 13 may refer themselves for a careers guidance interview.
  • Specific work is directed at key transition points in Year 9 and Year 13.
  • The September Guarantee is the guarantee of an offer in ‘learning’ for all young people completing Year 11 and one-year Year 12 courses by the January after they leave.
  • Key measures in the delivery of the Universal Careers Service are the September Guarantee and the Y11 Destinations Survey.
