Public Conveniences![]() The Isle of Wight Council provides 68 public conveniences across the Island. The cleansing and minor maintenance of these facilities is managed by the Contracts Section of Engineering Services. A list of locations of public conveniences and detailing the facilities at each site is contained on the following link: Public conveniences: locations & facilities StandardsThe cleansing and minor maintenance of public conveniences is carried out by SHS Ltd under contract to the Isle of Wight Council. The service includes routine cleansing, replenishing items such as toilet rolls and undertaking minor repairs such as replacing door locks. The number of cleansing visits per day depends on the time of year but ranges from once to four times daily. Additional cleansing is carried out at specific toilets during various special events. Some facilities are closed during the winter period, when there are fewer visitors to the Island. These facilities will be opened for the summer season on 3 April and closed for the winter on 29 October. Other facilities are locked over night where they have been regularly effected by vandalism. In such cases, the facilities are unlocked at around 8am and locked at Dusk. To ensure that there is a high standard of cleansing and as part of our quality assurance procedures the public conveniences are regularly and randomly inspected by our Area Superintendents. Occasionally you may find facilities which you expect to be open, to be locked with a red padlock. These facilities are awaiting repair and are locked for Health and Safety reasons. The facilities will be re-opened when the repairs are completed and it is safe to do so. The following facilities are not cleansed under this contract. Contact details for the people responsible for the cleanliness of these facilities will be given here shortly; Rylstone Gardens, Shanklin Bonchurch Shore, Bonchurch Smugglers Haven, Ventnor Steephill Cove, Ventnor Totland Beach, Totland Disabled FacilitiesA large number of our Public Conveniences do have facilities for disabled users, all of which require RADAR keys.
