Vehicle Fleet Management
The vehicle fleet management team, based at our Carisbrooke Depot, is responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, servicing and disposal of the Council’s fleet of vehicles.
VehicleFleetManagementVersion400
The Council fleet (excluding Fire and Rescue Service vehicles) comprises around 120 vehicles and 100 items of equipment, and all of the Council’s Directorates have vehicles that are managed on their behalf by our central management team
VehicleFleetManagementVersion401
The fleet includes around 30 full size Wightbus buses and coaches, 10 minibuses, 60 vans, cars and off-road vehicles, plus mobile libraries, tractors, trailers and road trains.

Currently most repair and servicing work is outsourced through contractors, but the Council does employ a Fleet Engineer to undertake minor repairs at our Depot.

Many of the new vehicles that are acquired are dual fuel and are therefore able to use LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) or petrol.

Our staff employ fleet management and fuel consumption software systems to monitor and apportion costs on behalf of our clients.

The administrative staff within the Section are also responsible for undertaking regular driver license checks of everyone who is required to drive a Council owned, operated or insured vehicle. The system of checks incorporates the issue of a CVDA (Council Vehicle Driving Authorisation) without possession of a currently valid version a driver may not drive our vehicles.

Further information in respect of our fleet management activities can be obtained by contacting us.
