ON ROAD CYCLE TRAINING The Isle of Wight Council is committed to improving safety for cyclists and delivers the National Standard of cycling training which is based upon the standard at which Bikeability is based. This cycle training is dubbed the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century. Level 2 of the training is currently being offered to all Year 6 school pupils. This level of training consists of one 2 hour session and five 1.5 hour on road sessions for 10+ year olds. The aims of the course are: - To provide trainees with the opportunities to practice roadcraft and develop their own cycling strategies.
- To encourage trainees to consider:
- The importance of a roadworthy bicycle;
- The importance of wearing a correctly fitted cycle helmet;
- The importance of being visible to other road users;
- To encourage trainees to use their bicycles as a form of transport and for leisure use.
Age group: Middle School pupils year 6 and above
