Pre driver training in schoolsThe aim of the course is to introduce pre-licence students to the motorcar and to professional driving instructors (ADI’s). The course comprises a structured programme of driver-based theory (six one-hour sessions in a classroom) and practical driving experiences (five sessions in a dual controlled car with an ADI). This is a great opportunity for pre-licence students to gain the required basic knowledge of important driving issues before driving, and to gain valuable car control experience before they venture onto roads. Groups in multiples of three are required – minimum of twelve, maximum of 24 – for each course. If there is demand, additional courses can be run on different days. Theory SessionsSession 1 – The Car, The Driver, The Law Session 2 – Rules of the Road, Highway Code Session 3 – Accidents, How and why they happen Session 4 – Risks and Consequences Session 5 – Vision and Hazard Perception Session 6 – The Driving Test – Talk by Driving Standards Agency Examiner Practical SessionsFive one-hour sessions, three students per car. The fifth session includes under the bonnet checks and changing a spare wheel.
The cost to each student is £21. To justify the subsidised rate, the Road Safety Team must ensure road safety standards are achieved. Therefore the theory sessions must be completed to satisfaction before the practical driving can commence. If for whatever reason students fail to attend any of the theory session, they will not be eligible for the practical driving session and their fee will be forfeited. A certificate of course completion for the student’s job portfolio will be given to those students who attend and complete the course.
