Family Resource Service (FRS)

The Family Resource Service is based at St James Centre, 4&5 St James St, Newport.

Family Resource Service workers are trained to work with families, using a Solution Orientated Brief Therapy focussed approach. The workers provide time-limited intervention to support the family in finding their own solutions to the situations they are facing.

All referrals to the Family Resource Service are currently via social workers following a current Initial or Core Assessment.

The core remit of Family Resource Service is to maintain family integrity, by preventing children from entering the looked after system and/or supporting them as they return to the family home from a foster placement.

From March 2005 parents can also access a number of preventative services, for vulnerable families, in collaboration with colleagues from children’s services, health and voluntary services.
