The Local Government Ombudsman looks at complaints about councils and some other authorities and issues an annual letter about the performance of each local authority. This is the annual letter for the Isle of Wight Council for 2007/8.

At the Council’s invitation, a team of experts from the Improvement and Development Agency scrutinised the organisation in September 2003 to help maintain the focus on improved service delivery
The peer review team conducted a follow up visit to the Council in September 2004. In its report (pdf format) the team concluded whilst there is clear evidence of a momentum for change within the authority, there was some doubt that the Council could achieve its ambition of becoming, first a ‘good’ and then an ‘excellent’ council within the timescales it has set itself.
