Island Futures
A community strategy for the Isle of Wight...
We are all
interested in the future of the Island. The Island Futures process gives you a
chance to play a key role in drawing up a vision for the Island over the next
decade through to 2012.
Island Futures (as our community strategy is called)
will help the whole Island plan for the future. Key organisations, both public
and private, will use the vision in their own work. It will also go to regional
and national government to help them understand the real needs of the Island's
population and what we want for the future.
As well as the general public,
key bodies such as the council, the police, health organisations and business
groups will contribute to the strategy.
A lot of you will remember Island
Voices - Speak Out for the Future , when roadshows travelled around the
Island finding out people's views about the Island and its future. Not only was
this consultation vital to the success of the Island Agenda 21 Strategy but the
views, opinions and work of the people involved, together with the results of
other consultations and surveys, are now playing a major part in the development
of Island Futures.
Why your views and involvement are
important
In order to plan for the future, the council needs to know what
you want, the issues you consider to be important and your priorities for the
future. What will your priorities be in 2012, when you are a bit older and your
circumstances may have changed?
On the list of pages on the left is one
entitled "Questionnaire" which gives you a chance to have your say about the
future. You might already have lots of ideas about what you want the future to
hold for you and for your community, so please fill it out and e-mail it back to
us. If you want to join in the process, but do not know where to start, you may
find it helpful to read the other pages, which give information on some of the
choices the Island will face in the next 10 years.
