Niton and Whitwell Parish Council Report
There was no full Parish Council meeting during December but the Planning Committee met on 12th December at Niton Primary School. This short meeting was followed by an open presentation from Katie-Sue Wilson, Conservation Officer for the Isle of Wight Council. The presentation was on the proposed conservation area in Niton and how you can get involved in the public consultation which has now been confirmed as running from Friday 20th January to Friday 2nd March. The Isle of Wight Council would really welcome your opinion on the two proposed designations. For advice on submitting your comments, please see the formal notices around the village or the Isle of Wight Council Conservation Office website at www.iwight.com/caconsultation. Printed copies of the appraisal documents and the boundary map are available from the Edward Edwards library in Niton.
The Parish Council is supporting the establishment of the Age Concern ‘Good Neighbour Scheme’ within the villages of Niton and Whitwell. You are asked to look at the posters and leaflets on display locally asking for volunteers and also for people needing assistance. Councillors would be extremely grateful for any support you can offer for this very worthwhile scheme which looks to support older people over 50 years of age in times of need. If you could change a light bulb for an older person, put their rubbish out, fetch some shopping or drive them to the surgery, Age Concern would love to hear from you. If you think you would like to become a volunteer or client, or just find out more information about the scheme, please ring 01983 525282 and ask for Gwen or email ageconcerniw@aciw.org.uk.
