The Buy with Confidence website is a list of approved firms. These businesses have been approved by the Isle of Wight Council's Trading Standards Service and they agree to provide reliable and quality service.

What is Buy with Confidence?


The Buy with Confidence scheme is an initiative by the Isle of Wight Council's Trading Standards Service to help businesses comply with the law while improving consumer protection through a partnership approach. It is open to any business on the Isle of Wight.

Businesses signing up to their responsibilities set down in the rules to the Scheme will become 'Approved Members'. The Scheme also includes a clear statement of the service the Council will provide to businesses.


Benefits for Consumers

We make every effort to ensure that members comply with the law. We cannot guarantee the financial standing of the members nor that their work will never give rise to complaint. However, should this be the case, any difficulties will be dealt with fairly.

Any business that has been accepted on the Scheme has been audited by the Trading Standards Service. This means that their business has committed to providing a quality service to their customers.

They agree to comply with the spirit and the letter of both the civil and criminal law relating to their business. This includes laws relating to product and environmental safety, fair trading, consumer credit, prices, animal health and weights and measures.

All businesses have provided details concerning their ownership, staffing, premises and trade activities of the business. They have ensured that all staff are adequately trained for the work they carry out in relation to relevant civil and criminal law and that they are fully aware of the commitments made by the business under this scheme.

How much does it cost for a business to join Buy with Confidence?

There is no fee for joining the scheme. If your business is required to have a Criminal Convictions check carried out, this will cost £23 per check which is payable to Disclosure Scotland.

How does a business apply?


If you are interested in joining the Scheme it is important that you read the requirements set out in the conditions document. If, having read the requirements you would like to apply, just complete an application form or the electronic application on the Buy with Confidence website. Officers from the Trading Standards Service will contact you to arrange an appointment to process your application.
