Staff Benefit Schemes

The Isle of Wight Council has two schemes available to its employees which are permitted under Government legislation that allows employers to offer such schemes to staff enabling them to make tax savings through the payroll. These are called ‘Salary Sacrifice schemes’.

The Childcare Initiative allows employees to save substantial amounts of money on childcare costs. Employees who pay for registered childcare can have payments made directly from their pay subject to a maximum amount per week. The scheme can be joined anytime of the year and covers children up to the age of 15 (16 if disabled).

The Cycle to Work Scheme permits employees to hire a cycle over an eighteen month period for travel to and from work as well as for personal use. Cycles as well as safety equipment and accessories can be chosen from local cycle retailers. Normally there is the opportunity to join the scheme twice a year.

Employee Assistance Programme

The Council has available to it’s employees and Councillors, an impartial and completely confidential advice and counselling support service. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via a freephone number and is also available to the employee’s family household members.
