Mr Geoff Lumley

Welcome to My Website

Geoff LumleyOn 4 June 2009 the people of Newport East ward (the communities of Pan, Barton and Shide) honoured me by re-electing me as their IW councillor for the next 4 years - the only Labour councillor in a Tory controlled IW Council. It will continue to be my role to challenge, hold to account and scrutinise the decisions of the Council leadership. Of course I will spend most of my time on ward matters, which is my main function. I hope I will continue to get the balance right.

I was also elected unopposed on 1 May 2008 to represent Pan for 2 years on the newly-created Newport Parish Council.

Please leave messages on my Home phone number and I will get back to you within 24 hours unless I am away. I also generally respond to emails within 24 hours.

Biography: I live two minutes walk outside Newport East, in Fairlee Road, with my partner Mary. I have lived in Newport for 18 years and 21 years on the Island in total, having moved here from London - where I gained a BSc degree at the London School of Economics in 1979. Originally I am from Sunderland in the north east - which you will be able to tell when I speak! I am 52 years old and I currently work part-time (mornings) in the civil service.

I am a governor of Downside Middle School, a Medina Housing Association board member, and a Director of the Riverside Centre. I was also Chair of the Newport Town Management Committee for 2 years, which prepared the ground for the new Parish Council elected in May 2008. At the inaugural meeting of Newport Parish Council I was elected as its first Chair and was re-elected in May 2009.

I have been involved in Pan issues for 18 years and am delighted to be both it's and Shide's elected representative at County Hall.
