Mr John Vere Hobart

Welcome to My Website

John Vere HobartNEW: View my report as Champion for Heritage and Environment

I have been serving on the Isle of Wight Council as Member for Gurnard since the last election in 2005. Since that time I have been involved in a wide range of issues in my ward, working closely with the Gurnard Parish Council.

As Champion for Heritage and the Environment I serve on the steering comittee of the AONB,The Countryside Access Forum and the Cycle Forum. I am, and have been for a number of years, a Trustee for Island 2000. I am also a Friend of Carisbrooke Castle Museum who supply such a wonderful service to Education on the Island.

I have been a member of the Planning Committee since 2006. I also sit on the Commission for Business and Infrastructure.

I am always available to those living in my ward, and I can be contacted about any issues or concerns that may arise. I am more than happy to meet up and discuss problems in the village and it's surrounding areas.

Biography:  I grew up in the rural centre of the Isle of Wight and went to primary school at the Convent School in Caisbrooke. (Now the Doctors Surgery!)I then attended school in Cowes before going to boarding school on the mainland.

I studied agiculture for 3 years at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, I gained further experience in Southern Africa before returning to the UK to work.

I currently live in Gurnard with my wife, Kate, and our two sons. Prior to that we lived in Cowes where for a number of years my wife and I ran the family hotel business. Whilst in Cowes I served on the Cowes Town Council from its inception.

We are currently endeavouring to move back to central rural Wight, the area my family farmed for nearly a century, and where my brother still lives.
