Mr John Vere Hobart
Welcome to My Website
I have been serving on the Isle of Wight Council as Member for Carisbrooke and Gunville since the last election in 2009. Since that time I have been involved in a wide range of issues in my ward, working closely with the Newport Parish Council, and this year, 2010, I was elected as a member and now serve on the transport and allottments committee for this parish council.
I serve on the steering comittee of the AONB,The Countryside Access Forum and I am council representative on the board of Medina Housing Association. I am also a Friend of Carisbrooke Castle Museum who supply such a wonderful service to Education on the Island.
I have been a member of the Planning Committee since 2006 and find this role fascinating and challenging as government brings in new legislation, currently PPS3 (garden grabbing legislation).
I am always available to those living in my ward, and I can be contacted about any issues or concerns that may arise. I am more than happy to meet up and discuss problems in the village and it's surrounding areas.

| Biography: | I grew up in the rural centre of the Isle of Wight and went to primary school at the Convent School in Carisbrooke. (Now the Doctors Surgery!)I then attended school in Cowes before going to boarding school on the mainland.
I studied agriculture for 3 years at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, I gained further experience in Southern Africa before returning to the UK to work.
I currently live in Sandy Lane, Whitecroft, with my wife, Kate, and our two sons. Prior to that we lived in Gurnard where I served as member of the Isle of Wight Council. Before that we lived in Cowes where for a number of years my wife and I ran the family hotel business. Whilst in Cowes I served on the Cowes Town Council from its inception.
We are very happy to have now moved back to central rural Wight, to the area where my family lived and farmed for over a century, and where my brother still lives. |
