Equality and Diversity Impact Assessments and Action Plans

As a requirement under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 all local authorities are required to impact assess their services and new/revised policies. The council developed an impact assessment which takes in to account all areas of diversity legislation: age, disability, race, gender, religion/religious belief and sexual orientation.

The council took the decision that all services would undertake an annual impact assessment and develop their equality and diversity action plans.

The impact assessment looks at how a service promotes, monitors and consults on equality and diversity issues within their service area to ensure that equality of opportunity is promoted. Completion of the impact assessment will help the council understand what areas need assistance and where best practice can be shared.
