Language is Everything provide translation services to more than 500 organisations across the UK, including local authorities, this includes:

  • Telephone interpretation
  • Written translation
  • Face to face interpreting

Languages available:

Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Cantonese), Chinese (Mandarin), Farsi/Dari, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish (Kurmanji), Kurdish (Sorani), Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serb-Croat, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, Tigrinya, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese

Any department wishing to use this service should contact Language is Everything direct and set up an account number. Any costs are charged to each individual department.

Guidelines for using an interpreter:

  • Remember that you, not the interpreter, are the ‘chairperson’ who controls the three-way conversation
  • Make sure you know exactly which language your client speaks. Try to avoid making assumptions based on where the client is from
  • Remember to allow at least twice as much time as would for an ‘English-only’ conversation
  • If possible brief the interpreter before you speak to your client
    • Speak directly to your client. For example, ask your client, ‘When did you arrive?, rather than ask the interpreter, ‘Can you find out what time he arrived’
  • When speaking to your client, do not give too much information at one time
  • Before you end the conversation, make sure that both your client and the interpreter know that the session is about to finish
