4 & 5 St James Street, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5HE. Telephone – (01983) 814370 Fax – (01983) 814390 The Family Resource Service is part of the Children’s Services Directorate, which falls within the main Social Services Department of Isle of Wight Council. We provide a range of services which aim to prevent children from entering the looked after system. This means that we aim to keep families together when it is in the child’s and the parent’s best interests. We currently receive referrals from other Social Services teams such as Referral and Assessment, Children and Families Community, 16 plus and the Children’s Disability Team. A basic assessment of need will be carried out in order for us to provide the best possible service to suit the families’ needs. We use a “Solution-Oriented” approach, as a method of working. For more information about this, click on the relevant section on the left. There is a team of workers who work individually, or in pairs to listen to families who are experiencing difficulties at home. They promote positive communication between family members, identify the family’s skills and try to improve the confidence of the parent or carer. This enables the families to move on after celebrating their own unique strengths. We can also offer Early Years Outreach that provides practical and emotional support, advice and guidance to the families of young children (usually under 5 years). We have also recently developed our services to be able to receive referrals for specific One to One sessions for children and young people aged between 7 and 16, in order to address issues such as social isolation, low self esteem, bullying, challenging patterns of behaviour and inappropriate peer circles. Please look at our Frequently Asked Questions section for more specific information about our service. To find us at St James Centre, click on the “Map and Directions” link on the left. |
