Constructionline and CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Scheme)From the 1 April 2009 the Isle of Wight Council will be using Constructionline, the U.K. Register of pre-qualified contractors and consultants to the construction industry, to pre-qualify contractors and consultants for future engineering, construction, property and land related Contracts. The Isle of Wight Council has also decided, given the importance that it attaches to health and safety, that its contractors and consultants should in future also have achieved accreditation from ‘CHAS’ (the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme). The effect of these two decisions will be that the Council can use both Constructionline and CHAS registered members lists for selecting contractors and consultants that it would invite for future tender for engineering, construction property and land related contracts. Please note that registration with these two organisations is not a guarantee that the contract would be awarded to you, however, it will be one of the criteria that can be used to simplify the tendering process. For details on Constructionline and to download an application form, please refer to the Constructionline website www.constructionline.co.uk or call direct on 0844 892 0313. For details of the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) and to download an application form, please refer to the CHAS website www.chas.gov.uk or call direct on 020 8545 3838. If you are already registered with Constructionline and CHAS, can you please ensure that all your details are up to date. |
