Walking Festival Celebratory Weekend: October 24-27Welcome to our NEW Celebratory Walking Weekend! A record number of walkers put their best foot forward earlier this year and took part in the Isle of Wight Walking Festival. Now, still celebrating 10 successful years’, and we are turning our attention to a brand new walking event this October. Boosted by some brilliant weather and excellent television coverage including BBC Countryfile and South Today, and in the national papers; The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, The Observer and The Sunday Express – walk leaders have reported unprecedented attendance at many of the themed, coastal and countryside walks, which range from Story This year was a bumper year for walks. The sixteen day festival in May and the Celebratory Walking Weekend in October will total a record of 313 walks between them. Organisers from the Isle of Wight Council estimate that well over 24,500 people attended the festival in May. As part of the 2008 ten year celebrations, for the first time, a special October walking weekend will offer a range of autumnal walks, enabling walkers to return to our shores to enjoy the Island’s colourful beautiful scenery.
The Celebratory Walking Weekend has attracted a lot of national interest, and we are looking forward to yet another successful event at the end of the summer, which will help boost the Tourism Industry as it lengthens the season. An evening with Alan Hinkes – Medina Theatre, Sunday 26th October
At over 8000 metres and being the most dangerous mountains on the planet, where human survival is measure in hours and is known as being in the “death zone”. Alan is part of an exclusive club of only 12 people alive who has reached the summit of all the world’s highest mountains – which is the same number of people who have stood on the moon! Many mountaineers have perished attempting this challenge.
