Adding a Link

We are keen to add links from iwight.com to other web sites provided the information is relevant, accessible and is not of an obscene, racist or slanderous nature.

To send us the details of your site please fill in the online link form by clicking here.

We do vet and assess link requests so if you would like a link from iwight.com you should consider the following:

Content

There are many sites claiming to be Island Portals but very few live up to this. We prefer to link to sites specialising in a particular area or subject matter rather than repeat the same information.

Load times

We are reluctant to link to sites with excessive load times. Pages - especially the Homepage - should load in around 10-20 seconds on a standard 28k modem.

Accessibility

We prefer link sites to meet basic accessibility criteria as laid down by W3C and Bobby. For many sites this can mean simply adding an image description (<alt> tag) to the images used.

Links

We expect the linked site to provide links to other related sites of interest as well as a reciprocal link to iwight.com

Commercial Sites

We link to commercial sites and businesses provided they are relevant or specific to the Isle of Wight.

So why should I bother linking?

There are nearly 9000 pages of information in iwight.com which make it a popular source of Island information. We are highly ranked on most search engines and currently receive nearly 3000 page requests a day (over 8000 hits) and we are committed to providing a comprehensive online service to the Isle of Wight, it's residents and visitors.
We also have the technology to help people find the information they are looking for through a search system that indexes iwight.com and all its link pages. This means that a visitor at iwight.com entering a search word will also be directed to any linked sites that contain the search word.

This makes iwight.com a powerful information resource for the Island.

To add send us the details of your link please fill in the 'Add a Link' form.
