NAME: Hells Bells
COMMENTS: Well this was the first time I'd sailed around the IOW and unfortunately we didn't make it all the way round; you may ask why... well it was due to a whole series of events including; the weather which was fantastically sunny but rubbish for sailing - no wind other than the skippers(!), the extremely late starting times which meant the tide was against us and the tankers had a good go too, plus we managed to get tangled with a lobster pot and run aground a Hurst castle! But did we give up? No! We made it to the Needles and then felt that we were missing out on all the comradeship back in the pubs in Cowes.
I can say I that thoroughly enjoyed this event, using race tactics, jostling at Hurst with a huge number of boats to get to the Needles and the banter /name calling was hilarious. The 75th round the IOW event was great fun and certainly helped develop my roving fender technique.
