A MAMMOTH programme which could see Isle of Wight Council's County Hall site sold off and a joint HQ built with the Island's Primary Care Trust and the police is the flagship scheme outlined by the council's property services department.
The whole of Newport Harbour, South Street and County Hall area could be redeveloped under the proposals which form part of the council's review of its stock and buildings.
All council owned property will be looked at under the review which could see many buildings - many of which are in a poor state of repair - disposed of for regeneration.
The review will see council managers working closely with the PCT and the police to produce the best possible portfolio of public owned buildings across the whole Island.
It will also enable staff to enjoy more flexible working patterns which could see employees working from home.
Councillor George Brown the Isle of Wight Council's cabinet member for Assets, Planning and Housing said:
"Many of the council's buildings are currently less that fit for purpose with the result that some of our staff suffer from a poor working environment.
"This review will free up resources which will ensure that the council has a well maintained stock of buildings, essential for a local authority that wishes to provide a four star 21st Century service for Island residents."
