Isle of Wight Council is continuing its commitment to improving education standards by setting out a series of objectives. They include enhancing training given to school leaders to focus on key areas around the assessment of pupils and their learning. The benefits of this include identifying the pupil's strengths and weaknesses, and developing clearer objectives within lessons.
The objectives will also see better monitoring of in-depth data that will help schools carry out reviews into how they are performing. This will allow more effective data to be studied which will allow senior officers to better support and challenge schools.
The 'School Improvement Strategy' also forms part of the initiative, and will be supported by funding from the Department for Education & Skills. This is a detailed scheme, which ultimately has a number of aims, including not having any Island schools in 'Special Measures' by the start of the 2008 academic year, and improvements in exam results.
