This year’s Big Day Out on Sunday 9th October takes place at
Brading Roman Villa from 10.30pm – 3.30pm and promises to be as fun
and exciting as ever! The free one-day event, which marks the start of Family
Learning Week, is open to children, young people and families and is packed
full of activities and entertainments.
Find out more about what’s available for children, young people and families on the Isle of Wight in the main marquee with information, competitions and activities from over 70 local services and organisations.
Or watch the free entertainments in the arena including demonstrations about civilian life in Roman times (kitchens, costumes, medicines, cosmetics and games) as well as military re-enactments. Plus Roman food demonstrations, a chance to hear and make Roman musical instruments, spinning and weaving, rope-making, African Arts and dance workshops. There will also be the usual opportunities to get involved in craft making, face painting and a whole host of other free activities and a chance to watch live music and drama. Plenty of fun things to do for all the family, whatever the weather.
If you are interested in coming along, look out for your free tickets, which will be available from your local library from Friday 23rd September. You’ll need one ticket per person and you are advised to collect them early to avoid disappointment.
Free travel to the event has also been arranged from selected locations across the Island. Information on specific bus times and trains is available on the leaflet that can be collected from libraries across the Island.
