IOW flood warnings and watches have been withdrawn as at 12.20 pm on January
13th. +++The Environment
Agency this morning (Tuesday 13th January) advised all those living, working
or travelling in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to be aware
of the possibility of flooding following heavy overnight rain.
During the night up to 30mm of rain has fallen across the region and this has been accompanied by some strong winds. The rain has fallen into river catchments that were already swollen by yesterday’s downpour. Environment Agency staff have been busy during the past few days ensuring flood defences are in a good condition and there are no blockages on rivers and streams. But the winds which are forecast to continue throughout the morning may bring down more trees and debris and this could lead to flooding.
The Agency’s flood warning web service is currently experiencing technical difficulties and is temporarily out of action. Anyone who needs flood warning updates or further information should ring the Agency’s Floodline number on 0845 988 11 88. The flood warnings and watches in force at the time of the issue of this press release are as follows. It is likely more warnings will be issued as the morning progresses.
Further information on the flood warning is available from the Department of the Environment. Information is also available from Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
