2011 - Yes! The Isle of Wight wins in its bid to host the 2011 Games

The ‘Inter-Island’ Games were born in the Isle of Man in 1985, with the intention of bringing together a number of small islands from different parts of the world in friendly competition as part of the Isle of Man’s Year of Sport.

The Isle of Wight has been an enthusiastic member of the International Island Games since the inaugural Games were held in the Isle of Man in 1985. We have also been participants in the World Youth Games since their inception.

The bi-annual games are held on one of the member islands and is ever growing, with over 2129 competitors competing in Guernsey at the 2003 Games.

The Isle of Wight Island Games Association has officially submitted a bid to host the 2011 games with a decision being made on Saturday 8th July.
