World Island Youth Games - Athletics squad Press Report

Athletics Team at the TrackAthletes from the Island took part in the 10th World Island Youth Games at Sicily. They were competing against athletes at least 1 year and in most cases 2 years older which is a daunting task but the Islanders were not overawed.

Over the three days of competition 12 personal bests were recorded in temperatures exceeding 28 degrees. The events started at 9.00am each day so they were having to get up at 6.00am to start their day!

Best individual performance was by Brogan Percy who produced a pb in the 400m and 5th place. She also gained another 5th place in the 800m and 11th in the 200m with times not far off medal places plus running in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m. At bottom age Brogan is eligible for selection for next years competition in Corsica.

Other results:- James Sykes was 7th in the 800m with a new pb and 14th in the 400m which was another pb. Daniel Cox – 11th in 1500m, 10th in 3000m; Daniel Poigndestre – 13th 1500m, 11th 3000m. Both the Daniels ran pb’s in their events. Josh Gilbey, moving up a weight to the 5kg shot was placed 13th and in his 200m came 17th. Jaryd Robinson came 11th in 400m and 16th in 200m with Tom Marsland 12th 400m and 18th 200m. Tom Colwill – 17th 100m, Ethan Newbury, 16th 100m.

Athletics CompetitorsAiya Abe took 8th place in the 1500m and 6th in the 3000m. Lucy Olden was 12th in 1500m and 10th in 3000m. Faith Norster, a late replacement, ran well with finishing positions of 13th in 400m and 16th 200m. Sarah Grace came 13th in the 100m and 18th in 400m. Mollie Occomore was 17th in 100m and 17th in discus while team mate Chloe Woodhouse was 16th in both 100m and discus. Suzanne Clifton gained 10th place in high jump.

In the girls 4 x 100m 7th place 4 x 400m 7th
In the boys 4 x 400m 8th

These performances gave both the teams 11th place in the athletic competition from 15 teams.
