UrbanSealion is a little shop with big ideas selling Vegetarian Food and Cosmetics in Cowes. Everything in the shop is Fairtrade and Organic.

As a totally Isle of Wight based company, UrbanSealion innovates in promoting simple and good food for everybody, challenging the concept that healthy food is posh or a hippy fashion. It also moves away from the traditional idea of a health food shop. As the team put it; "Urbansealion is not a health food shop, it is a lifestyle choice." They don't sell any vitamin supplement and neither promote complementary medicine. Everything is focused on the quality of the food and the purity of the cosmetics. Urbansealion is also the biggest stockist of Organic and Fairtrade Speciality Coffee and Tea in the whole of the IOW.

The company also provides a relaxing shopping experience. Customers can take the time to browse around the products, read the labels in their own time and consult a friendly and knowledgeable staff without rush. The ethos of UrbanSealion does not stop with the choice of products they stock. They have paid attention to detail even during the fittings of the premises. The walls and flooring are waterbased painted and the furniture is produced by local craftsmen using reclaimed timber. They also chose long lasting shelving and energy efficient lighting and equipment.

The selection of products sold at UrbanSealion is based on the following core values:

• Social Justice: Products with the Fairtrade mark, guarantee that farmers are paid fairly for their work and that there is no exploitation of labour involved. Urbansealion is committed to increase support to worldwide farmers working towards are a more sustainable and fairer world.
• Sustainability: Organic Products, which are certified by Soil Association and other International bodies, guarantee that they are free of pesticides and are non-genetically modified. They also tend to be produced by farming methods that cause less impact on the enviroment and are 30% more energy efficient than any other farming methods. Even the cosmetics they sell are natural. They don't contain chemicals such as parabens and other ingredients that are harmful to the consumer and to the environment.
• Respect for all forms of life: Urbansealion only sells vegetarian and vegan products. None of the cosmetics they sell are or have ever been tested on animals.
