The Record Office keeps the following census returns covering the Isle of Wight:-

There are personal names indexes for the returns of 1851 (hard copy), 1881 (microfiche) and 1891 (microfiche).

Booking Details



It is essential to book a microfilm/fiche reader or printer in advance.

  • Film readers are available for a 4 hour session morning or afternoon.
  • Fiche readers are available for 2 hour sessions morning or afternoon.
  • The film/fiche printer may be booked for 2 hours in the morning or 1 hour during the afternoon.
Only 1 booking per day per person will be taken, and bookings for no more than 2 days can be taken in advance.
