Call the Finds Liaison Officer, Frank Basford, on 823810 to arrange a time to bring them to the County Archaeology Centre

How do I use the County Sites and Monuments Record?
The SMR is the database of known archaeological information on the Isle of Wight and is managed by the County Archaeology Service. Call 823810 to make an appointment to visit or see our web site

What is the Portable Antiquities Scheme?
It is a voluntary recording scheme for archaeological objects found by members of the public. For further information please contact Frank Basford on 823810

What should I do if I find any archaeological remains?
Protect the site and do not disturb it anymore, cover it and contact the Archaeology Service on 01983 823810

How can my child get involved in the Young Archaeologists Club?
The Isle of Wight Branch of the YAC organises monthly weekend activities for children aged 9 to 16 years. Write to DelianFry, Branch Leader, IOW YAC, Dinosaur Isle, Culver Parade, Sandown or email WightYAC@aol.com or look at National YAC website. Telephone Dinosaur Isle on 01983 404344

How can I get involved in archaeology on the Island?
If you are between the ages of 9 and 16, you can join the Isle of Wight Young Archaeologists Club(Contact Delian Fry, Branch Leader, YAC, Dinosaur Isle Museum, Sandown or email at WightYAC@aol.com). If you are an adult you can contact active local heritage groups or the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Archaeology (tel: 01983 404344 for Dinosaur Isle or O2380 593290 for the Hampshire and Wight Trust

How can I find out about the archaeology of an area on the Island?
You can look at the archaeological information by making an appointment to visit the Sites and Monuments Record at 61 Clatterford Road, Carisbrooke, Ring 823810 in advance to make an appointment
