VOMITING & DIARRHOEA AMONG GUESTS



ACT PROMPTLY

It could be:
  • viral gastroenteritis
  • food poisoning
  • due to an individual’s pre-existing medical condition
Beware! Viral gastroenteritis can infect other guests, resulting in an outbreak.




CLEANING UP

Vomit in a public place is a risk to other guests and staff. It should be cleared up quickly and safely (see overleaf).




INVESTIGATION

You should inform Environmental Health (see below) if there is an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting among guests. An Environmental Health Officer will lead the investigation.




ISOLATION

A guest who develops vomiting or diarrhoea could be infectious to others. They should not mix with other guests but should use a separate toilet and take meals in their room.
