SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL TO SCHOOLThe Isle of Wight Council promotes active (walking and cycling) and sustainable (bus, train and carshare) travel to school. SOLENT TRANSPORT
Solent Transport is a partnership of local transport stakeholders who seek to develop an integrated and seamless transport system for the Solent region that strengthens the local economy whilst also protecting the environment. The partnership’s website can be viewed at www.solent-transport.org.uk. RYDE TRANSPORT STRATEGYA Public Realm Strategy for Ryde is currently being developed and will provide an agreed overall design vision for Ryde. The Ryde Transport Strategy outlines the key transport issues for Ryde and identifies possible options for the future. Click here to download a copy of the Transport Strategy in Adobe PDF format. NEWPORT PEDESTRIANISATIONIn 2002 the Council consulted on the possibility of pedestrianising sections of Newport High Street. Click here for more details. RAIL STUDIESIn 2001, two important rail reports were released. The SRA report looked at the development of the Ryde to Shanklin line. Whilst the IW Council report examined what options exist to extend beyond the existing line back into Newport, Ventnor and Cowes.
