Ryde LibraryThe library has now reopened after a short closure for refurbishment. The layout of the adult lending library has been improved and the appearance updated. Ryde Help Centre has now been incorporated within the library. The staff may be contacted directly by telephone on 812678. Appointments may also been made on a drop-in basis. Events at Ryde Library“Understanding Genealogy” Thursday 20 November 1.30 – 4.30 A free training session providing an introduction to understanding genealogy and tracing family histories including undertaking computer research. This sponsored event is delivered by the IWC Island Heritage Librarian as part of the Ryde Cemetery Restoration Project. Places are limited and booking is required. Registration forms are available at the library. Alternatively, please call 01983 885172 or e mail janis.mundell@iow.gov.uk **We regret that this session has now been postponed until February 2009.** Age ConcernThere will be an advice session held at the library from 10 am to 1 pm on Wednesday 26 November. Silver SurfersIf you are over 50 and want to learn how to use the Internet and e-mail, register for a free 2 hour Silver Surfer Session at Ryde Library. Please ask at the counter or telephone for further details. Exhibitions29/09/08-30/10/08 – “Four lovely ladies” present an exhibition in acrylic, oil and watercolour celebrating their love of art. Islander Lynne and her erstwhile students display a variety of subjects including recreations of life on the Island in former days. 3/11/08 – 28/11/08 – “Independent Arts” exhibiting work in various media. The artists are older people that attend the Adelaide Art class in Ryde and residential home clients. Subjects include memories of the artists’ youth. Book SaleSaturday 8 and Sunday 9 November there will be a sale of withdrawn library stock. Promotions in Ryde LibraryCollections of Christmas books are now available in both the adult and children’s libraries. Service descriptionChildren's and adults' books, large print books, talking books on tape and CD, videos, DVDs, compact discs, free internet access, free computer access. Ryde Library also has a gallery space for art exhibitions.
