I no longer live on the Isle of Wight. How can I get a copy of a certificate?

Copies can be purchased from the Isle of Wight Register Office in person, by letter or by phone (using a credit or debit card). The cost of these certificates is £6.50 (£5 if you require a short birth certificate which does not show parents details). Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to 'IWC' and sent to The Isle of Wight Register Office, Northwood House, Ward Avenue, Cowes, Isle of Wight PO31 8AZ. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.
The following information will be required:

  • Birth Certificate: date and place of birth, full names given and parents full names.
  • Death Certificate: date and place of death and the full names of the person whose certificate is required.
  • Marriage Certificate: date and place of the marriage and the full names of the bride and groom.

I do not live on the Island but need to register a death that happened there. Do I have to come to the Island to register it?

The death could be registered by declaration at your local register office. Please ring them for more details.

If I decide to come to the Isle of Wight to register the death how do I I get to your office?

It is possible to add your own words, have readings and choose your own music. These must not have any religious connotation.

Do I get a death certificate free when I register a death?

No. Each certificate must be paid for.
