I no longer live on the Isle of Wight. How can I get a copy of a certificate?

Copies can be purchased from the Isle of Wight Register Office in person, by letter or by phone (using a credit or debit card). The cost of these certificates is £6.50 (£5 if you require a short birth certificate which does not show parents details). Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to 'IWC' and sent to The Isle of Wight Register Office, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 1UD. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.
The following information will be required:

• Birth Certificate: date and place of birth, full names given and parents full names.
• Death Certificate: date and place of death and the full names of the person whose certificate is required.
• Marriage Certificate: date and place of the marriage and the full names of the bride and groom.

Can we personalise our civil ceremony?

It is possible to add your own words, have readings and choose your own music. These must not have any religious connotation.

I do not wish to give my baby the father's surname until after we are married. Does this mean he will have to adopt the baby once we are married?

The baby should be re-registered once you have married the father and given his surname. He does not have to adopt the baby.

I do not live on the Isle of Wight. Can I still marry there?

For a civil marriage on the Island you need to book a date and time with the Superintendent Registrar and give notice of marriage in the district/s where you live.

Can I change my surname on my passport before I get married?

Yes. You will need to get a form from the Post Office and take it to the Superintendent Registrar or Minister.
