Changing career

In today's pace of change, to stay in the same job for the distance of your working life is highly unlikely. Different life events can make you look at what career you want. Given how important work is, it is an ongoing puzzle why so many people take the first job that comes along without really considering whether it is right for them.
Equally puzzling is how many people have an ideal job in mind which they are frustrated that they can't find.

The basic career choice rules include:

  • Be clear on exactly what skills you have.
  • Be clear where you want to use your skills.
  • Be clear on all possible job options.
  • Look at all possible paths that would bring you to your ideal job.
  • Be clear on what additional skills you gain from your next job.
