| Fees in connection with the application are based on the floor area of the proposed extension. (If you are building a two storey extension then the two floor areas should be added together). When checking which fee is payable you should refer to Table 2 of our fee sheet. | ||||

![]() | Are there any exceptions? The following list gives examples of situations where you can “extend” your home and do not need to involve Building Control. | |||
| 1 | You can add a conservatory or porch which has an internal floor area of less than 30m² and does not have a permanent opening from the main dwelling. | |||
| 2 | You can add a car port or covered yard which is open on at least two sides and has an internal floor area of less 30m². | |||
