Which birds are protected? 
  • All birds are protected at their nest site. Some sporting birds may be legally shot for a limited period during the winter months. Some birds, classified as pest species, can be controlled under licence. There are 23 pest species including Jackdaw, Rook, Magpie, Feral Pigeon and Wood Pigeon.
