A draft revised Local Development Scheme timetable can be viewed as Part 3 in the Annual Monitoring Report (2007/08) here.

Update – July 2008

As a result of the recently published Planning Policy Statement 12, we will be reviewing the Local Development Scheme. The Core Strategy will continue to progress with consultation, examination and adoption deadlines remaining unchanged.

For further details on Government’s planning reforms please see the Planning Bill and White Paper.

Update – July 2007

The Council has reviewed its Local Development Scheme (LDS) and it was approved by the Government Office for the South East (GOSE) on 3 July 2007. The LDS is the formal project plan for the Island Plan.

The revised LDS sets out the timetable for producing the Island Plan, detailing the documents that will be produced. The timetable can be found as Appendix 1 and more details can be found in Appendix 2.

The first documents that the Council will be working on will be the Core Strategy and Sites Allocation Development Plan Document (DPD). Both these documents will incorporate the work already undertaken on the Bay and Medina Valley Area Action Plans.

Background to Changes to the Planning Policy process

The Government has set in motion changes to the planning policy process, which will see the Unitary Development Plan replaced by a Local Development Framework. The new system came into force (under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004), as of 28 September 2004.

The existing system of producing development plans is seen to be too slow and inflexible and, in order to speed up the process and raise public awareness of the importance of planning, changes are afoot.

If you wish to be kept up-to-date about development of the Island Plan, you can register online to receive information, by sending your details to: planning.policy@iow.gov.uk

The existing document, the Unitary Development Plan (UDP), will be replaced by a framework of documents including:

It will be called the ISLAND PLAN

It will be supported by a series of background and research reports:

Also available to download is the 2005/2006 Annual Monitoring Report

The Shoreline Management Plan (SMP1) has also been used as a background paper to developing the Island Plan. We have split this into two documents: Chapters 1-5 and Chapters 6-10.
