ISLAND GAMES


The IOW Council Sports Development Unit works in partnership to support the Isle of Wight Island Games Association. The Games Association works tirelessly to prepare, coordinate and deliver a successful Island Games team at the Bi-Annual event.

The 2009 Island Games were held on the Island of Aland, Finland; preparations were good and the Isle of Wight brought home a host of medals, performing extremely well in the Athletics. Please click on the link to the left to view all the action as it happened.

The Sports Unit supports talented & gifted athletes with the ultimate aim of them representing the Island at prestigious events such as the Island Games and above.

The Sports Unit views it as crucial to provide clear sporting pathways for talented & gifted athletes to enable them to climb the ladder of sporting excellence. A variety of schemes have been put into place to ensure talented and gifted athletes are given every possibility to achieve their full potential and that the 2011 games leaves a lasting legacy for sport on the Island.
